Abstract

Instilling character values in students is a task that must be carried out by teachers at school. Character education is a personality-basic education that can train and familiarize students to grow into human beings who have noble character. This article aims to determine the internalization of character education values in high school students at SMP Negeri 5 Kerinci. This discussion is very interesting because it looks at the current phenomenon of the lack of teenage characters in schools, for example, characters towards themselves that are self-destructive by drinking, smoking, and not taking care of themselves; against others that do not respect teachers or their friends; and towards the environment, such as dumping and mulching garbage in any place. Some of these examples show the lack of character in today's youth. Seeing these facts made the SMP Negeri 5 Kerinci teachers think and try their best to help students internalize the values of character education. This type of research is qualitative and descriptive. The data collected in this study is based on the results of observations made at research locations, interviews, and documentation. It can be seen from this research that internalizing character values in high schools is done by instilling discipline, working together, exchanging information with teachers in other fields of study as well as with the school, and providing special guidance
